How to Start a Prayer Cornern
An Orthodox prayer corner is a quiet place in the home set apart for prayer. It does not need to be large or elaborate. A small shelf, wall, or tabletop can become a peaceful place to stand before God each day.
Begin with Christ and the Theotokos
A simple starting point is an icon of Jesus Christ and an icon of the Theotokos. Many Orthodox homes place Christ on the right and the Theotokos on the left when facing the prayer corner. Local customs vary, so your parish priest can help if you have questions.
Add the saints who are part of your life
You may add an icon of your patron saint, the patron saints of family members, a Guardian Angel, or saints to whom you feel a particular devotion. The purpose is not to collect as many icons as possible, but to create a place that supports faithful prayer.
Choose a practical location
Choose a clean, respectful area where you can pray with fewer distractions. If possible, select a place that is easy to visit in the morning and evening. Keep icons away from direct sunlight, moisture, smoke, and strong heat.

- Holy water, blessed palms, or other devotional items kept respectfully
