About Mother of God of the Sign
The Mother of God of the Sign, also known as the Theotokos of the Sign or Znamenie, depicts the Virgin Mary with her hands raised in prayer and Christ Emmanuel within a circular image at her breast. The icon proclaims the mystery of the Incarnation and recalls the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14. The principal commemoration of the Mother of God of the Sign is November 27.
Olga Ivkin portrays the Theotokos in a deep red mantle, with Christ Emmanuel blessing at the center of the image.
